Diane von Furstenberg Pre-Fall 2011 Collection

Work it, working girl.

Style.com gets the quote:

"We looked back at the glorious American sportswear of the 1970's," Mispelaere explained. "Diane's focus, then as now, is on the working girl, and easy clothes to go to work with."

That's kind of like Oscar de la Renta saying, "For this collection, we decided to make traditionally feminine dresses and gowns."

It's DVF essentially redoing classic DVF. From a design or innovation perspective, there's not much to say because we've seen all these looks before. Anyone who flipped through a catalog in the '70s has seen these looks before. But we can't help it; we love this collection. Lorenzo's a sucker for a woman in a knee-high boot (J'ADORE the colored socks). Tom's a sucker for tone-on-tone. We're both suckers for well-tailored, relatively simple looks that exude an effortless chic. Love the colors, the easy wearability, the mix and match aspects. Strangely, we're only so-so on the prints, which she's known for using masterfully. Still, when DVF says "sportswear" and "working girl," best to sit up and take note, because she's always been a master in these areas.
