Directors Guild Awards 2011

Queen Helen gets it done.

Good morning, darlings! If it's not morning when you're reading this then what the hell took you so long to get here? The stars came down from the heavens last night, put on gowns, and attended the Directors Guild Awards. Let's form opinions!

Amy Adams

We sound like a broken record (cue the under-25s: "What's a broken record?"), but too many women try to pull off neutrals without taking their own skin tone into consideration. This neutral shade has a yellow undertone and Amy's skin is pink. Put them together and they spell "unflattering." If she really wanted a neutral, she should have looked at one that worked with her skin tone rather than against. In short: We no like.

Claire Danes in Roland Mouret

She looks really great here: dramatic, sleek, eye-catching. That one pic of her husband staring at her with pride is seriously adorable, even though they both have reputations for having enormous sticks up their respective asses.

Elisabeth Shue

Ohhhhh, SWEETIE. That's just wrong, dear. That dress doesn't fit correctly and it's not a particularly flattering dress anyway. The hair is just sad.

Helen Mirren

It's not the most spectacular thing she's ever worn, but she looks good. Classic and respectable.

Helena Bonham Carter

If you saw her Style Profile the other day, then you'll know that this is a very toned-down HBC. We're curious how toned down she'll be on Oscar night. Still, she remains true to herself, with the weird volume on the skirt, and the purse and glasses. She looks cute.

Jennifer Lawrence in Prabal Gurung

It's a great dress, even if it's a bit standard. We just don't think the heavy black shoes were the way to go.

Julia Stiles

You could pick this dress up at any dress shop in America for under a hundred bucks.

Melissa Leo

This is not 1989 and you are not Diane Keaton.

Natalie Portman in Michael Kors

Just to demonstrate how loving, kind and fair-minded we are, we finally saw Black Swan last night. The very second the screen turned to white and the credits appeared, Tom turned to Lorenzo and said, "What a silly piece of crap." Lorenzo, who had already put on his hat, gloves, and scarf ten minutes before, replied with "Get me the hell out of here." Yes, kittens. We hated the movie.

BUT! We love this dress and we love her in it and we think it's the best she's looked in a while.

Sofia Vergara

It's a pretty dress and she's got one hell of a body, but someone needs to tell her that dresses don't have to be super skin-tight ALL the time.

First Lady Michelle O. Tells Women to Wear What They Love...

Via HuffPo:
We're totally ready to turn the page on Michelle Obama McQueen Dressgate.

For those of you not caught up, here's the saga in a nutshell: the first lady wore British label Alexander McQueen to the State Dinner with China last week. Oscar de la Renta called her out for wearing a non-American designer and the CFDA released a statement expressing its disappointment in her choice. Meanwhile, Michelle donned all-American Rachel Roy to the State of the Union and we thought we'd gotten over all of the fashion drama. But then Cathy Horyn named Mrs. Obama the victim of a sartorial witch hunt and we just couldn't resist asking Joan Rivers what she thought of the whole thing.

And now, FLOTUS has spoken. In an interview with Robin Roberts of "Good Morning America" on Friday, the anchorwoman ventured to bring up the issue among important topics like Obama's reelection campaign, support for military families and Let's Move!

What was Michelle's response? She said, "Look, women, wear what you love. That's all I can say. That's my motto. I wear what I like because...I gotta be in the dress, so..."

David's Bridal Premieres White by Vera Wang

Vera branches out.

"World renowned bridal designer, Vera Wang will debut her highly anticipated inaugural collection for David's Bridal, White by Vera Wang, in Spring 2011.

The collection will include a wide variety of looks showcasing Vera Wang's classic feminine detailing and modern approach to bridal design. Gowns will range from classic ballroom styles to modern slim silhouettes.

The Spring 2011 collection of White by Vera Wang bridal gowns will be available in select David's Bridal stores nationwide beginning February 2011, all priced between $600 - $1,500. At launch, 150 stores across the US will carry the line while all David's Bridal locations will offer brides the ability to order their desired gown.

"I'm excited to partner with David's Bridal as the exclusive retailer for the White by Vera Wang collection," says Vera Wang. "This collection embraces my true design aesthetic and through David's Bridal, I look forward to sharing my creative vision with brides across the country."

We always have less to say about bridalwear than the average Bitter Kitten. Just not our world, darlings. We have opinions, of course. We wouldn't be us if we didn't have opinions. We just don't have a lot of really interesting things to say about this particular genre of clothing. YOU kittens always do, however, and a Saturday afternoon is the perfect time to argue on the internet about strapless gowns. Because yes, it's mostly strapless gowns.

Still, say what you will, Vera Wang has made her name synonymous with bridal and she did it by producing one gorgeous gown after another.

It's a pretty collection, no doubt about it. Of course the real story here is the price point, which puts Vera Wang in the hands of a lot of brides who couldn't have afforded it otherwise.

In or Out: Anne Hathaway in Marni

Harshing our buzz.

Kittens, it is a beautiful Saturday, if you define "beautiful" as "not currently in the grips of a fucking THUNDER BLIZZARD." Seriously, Mother Nature? Blizzards and thunder weren't enough on their own? You had to combine them? What a bitch.

Anyway, the prospect of actually leaving the house and walking past the end of the street has us giddy with excitement! We have a whole day planned! But first, let's say something nice about one of our favorite stylish gals, Miss Anne Hatha-

Anne Hathaway attends 20th Century Fox press day For "RIO" in Marni.

What the fuck?

"HAHA!" said Tom.
"Doesn't she look fabulous?" asked Lorenzo.
"I have no respect for you at all right now," replied Tom.

And thus, we were off to the races like only a couple of 15 years can head off to the races. Louder and louder did our voices get. Less and less syllables were we each allotted before the other decided it was their turn to speak. More and more did we repeat the same points in the vain hope that saying it louder and more forcefully would finally win the day. You know how it goes.

Anyway, Lo thinks she looks chic. T thinks the proportions are ridiculous, the sweater looks shapeless, and the wedges take the whole look way down. To him, she just looks awkward. Lo still thinks she looks chic. And now you see why Lo is heading off to Barney's today to find something to wear during Fashion Week, and T is going to do some vacuuming and then run some errands and maybe get a bite to eat. Blissfully away from each other. Don't be sad, poodles. Even Ma and Pa Ingalls didn't spend 24/7 together. And when they did, something always burned down. It's better this way.

Our point is, due to her RUINING our marriage, we can't declare her IN or OUT. It will be up to you, our little darlings. Remember, Daddy and Daddy love you very much and it's NOT YOUR FAULT.

It's Anne Hathaway's. Bitch.
