FakeBamas: The New "It" Guy In Political Parody

Ever since Barack Obama popped up on the scene with his handsome mug, gorgeous family and fascinating multicultural background people have become obsessed with recreating the look, either in parody, in respect, in art, in advertisement or just for poops and giggles. I have become fascinated with collecting this army of "FakeBamas," mostly because they are (well, most of them are) even better looking than the original model. Some don't look like him at all, but that's the point. Obama has become the black, multiracial "everyman" for the unnaturally good-looking FakeBama. Here is my collection of who is "hawt" and one who is not.

Iman Obama: Iman "Alphacat" Crosson, actor/internet superhero

A YouTube sensation, many individuals from random bloggers (like me) to better known bloggers (like Andrew Sullivan) think someone should give this brother a job. Like Saturday Night Live. It's not that we all hate Fred Armisen's Obama for committing the Cardinal sins of "not-funniness" and "light Egyptian pancake brown-face" (even though Armisen is technically brown, being part Lebanese). It's that Alphacat is THAT GOOD, as evidence by his T.I. parody of Barack.

It also doesn't hurt that Alphacat is as good or better looking than Obama, which is the key to being a hot FakeBama. Really. It's insulting to pick an unattractive person to play the president-elect. As good looking or better, it's the only way to better exemplify the "Obama Fetish" everyone is rapidly developing like a full-body rash.

Parody skills: **** (four out of four stars)

General Hotness: ***1/2 (three and a half out of four)

Staff Sgt. Obama: Derrick Brooks

He stood in for Barack during the Inauguration rehearsals. Obama didn't see the resemblance, and yeah, they really don't look that much alike, other than the "light browness," but he's hot, so he's here.

Parody skills: None. He was just doing his job like any ridiculously sexy man in uniform would.

General Hotness: ****

Tropicana Obama: Michael Duvet, model/actor

Tropicana swears they were not trying to capitalize on "Hope Fever" when they cast this incredibly good looking actor for their print ad campaign.

Suuuuure. He's just Fake Obama Sexy for no damn reason at all.

Parody skills: *** (If it's a parody of looking cute while brown, he passes with flying colors.)

General Hotness: **** (That is a beautiful man, my friend. Once again, doesn't really look like Barack unless you squint, but ... ahem, he's dreamy.)

Keegan Obama: Keegan Michael-Kay, comedian

Now unemployed due to the slow death of SNL rival, Mad TV, Keegan Michael Key put up a serviceable Obama that was delightfully goofy and madcap (to match the sophomoric and weird energy of Mad TV). Keegan's only sin is that he's not as good looking as Barack, but he's good-looking enough to meet the standard.

Parody skills: ***

General Hotness: **1/2

Lamar Obama: Michael Lamar, professional FauxBama

Lamar, a professional Obama impersonator, recently went to France to spread some of that "Hope and Change" to our struggling black n' brown French homies. (One love to my Frenchie Snobs!) I don't think he looks anything like Obama (he looks a bit like an old, you know? Obama's younger looking and this guy's face is much more elongated). I think it's better when more youthful people play Obama, even individuals younger than him because it plays up the fact that Obama doesn't look "grandfatherly" like past presidents. He's energetic and hip.

Parody skills: Unknown (I've never seen the man do his thing)

General Hotness: * (He's cute, but not Obama cute ... if you know what I mean)

Roman Obama: Roman Watson, Jesus-loving male model

He starred in a Harper Bazaar's editorial last summer, helping Tyra Bank's indulge in her Michelle Obama fantasies. We weren't really impressed with Tyra's playing pretend, but Fake Barack was incredibly delicious looking, ears and all.

Here is what I initially wrote about RoBama:

He's a Miami-based, 6-foot-2-inch, Jesus-loving hunk of a male model who works for MC2 Model Management. I suggest restraint while looking through his portfolio. He really does look like Barack's insanely hot half-brother.

Parody skills: **** (All he had to strike a pose and that pose was hot)

General Hotness: **** (Did I mention he's a professional fashion model?)

Fred Obama: Fred Armisen, Saturday Night Live comedian/Habitual offender

You know how I all feel about Fred and his sometimes piss-poor forays into Barackatude. He kind of sucks at it. It's gotten better, but ... you know? Still kind of sucky. My fair Alphacat -- he's no you!

Parody skills: **1/2 (He's hit or miss)

General Hotness: *1/2 (Fred actually looks better dolled up as Obama than he does in real life. I don't know how to score that one. But, I also thought Fred made a cute Mahmoud too! Maybe he should just start tanning or something. Couldn't hurt, my fair not-white-white-guy.)

Indulge In Your Artsy, Inner Hopey Fantasies!

Courtesy of Paste Magazine! Make your own Fairey! I made mine! It's a little slow and clunky, but still fun. (via Gawker)

PS. If you make a really good one, send it to me and I'll post it on the blog on Inauguration Day!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #583, available in comic book shops nationwide on January 14th, 2009. Look for the special variant cover by artist Phil Jimenez featuring the President-Elect and Spider-Man!

Also for your viewing pleasure --

More "YOUNG BARRY: The Man Who Would Be President." (From Obama Pics Daily)

And yes, Jamaica Funk. That's what it is. Let it get into you. (Actually, I think this was taken at a Jazz Festival, but, whatever. In my mind that's what he's grooving to.)

And for your latest in EXTREME OBAMA, an electronic puppet edition of "WTF???"

It reminds me of those fake flowers with sunglasses in pots that used to dance to the radio that were big in the 90s.

Ozaki iMini Pets Animatronic Obama - Who wants a Muppet Barack Obama to sing and dance along with their favorite tunes? Hands higher, please! Higher! (Yahoo! Today In Tech blog)

Said Snob reader, Lesa, "I guess they want a presidential Bojangles?"

Hustlenomics*: Inappropriately Hot Young Obama Picture Is Already A T-Shirt!

And its available for you for the low, low price of $22 (plus shipping and handling).

As I wrote last month, the economy and the election of Barack Obama have spawned a perfect storm for the hardworking hustlemen and women of North America.

You see them everywhere selling their hastily created Obama-themed wares. And they move FAST! Why, it was just Wednesday when Time Magazine released those smokity-smoke-smoke-hot pictures of a young, college Kid Creole Obama and the hustle people are already cracking away. This time with an unwilling "this thing looks like that thing" assist from Bambu Rolling Papers. Only, no one slid Bambu any "papers" for using bastardized versions of their images, so they're calling the lawyers.

Soooo ... get 'em while they're legal!

*Is "Hustlenomics" a class at Columbia yet? And if not, why? And if you're a economist looking for a trendy book idea with a cute title, this could be your "Freakanomics" only with flea market pushers, bootleggers and masters of Photoshop and I'm just giving it away!

RuPaul IS RuBama!!!

Heee-larious, plus all kinds of fierce. Much better than Tyra's Michelle O. impersonation from this fall. And RuPaul beats her down from both sides, working that dress we all hated! But then, I'm biased. I love me some RuPaul. You betta work!

The only down side to this will be the lazy "Michelle is a man" jokes that will develop from this. Lame! Can't we simply enjoy some crazy RuPaul without the rudeness? He, and his fabulous drag persona, would NOT approve. (TMZ)

Extreme Obama: Almost Wrecking Your Car Edition

Yet another story for the "When Obama Love Gets Kooky" file.

From Thursday's Chicago Sun-Times:

As Obama’s motorcade made his way to a downtown news conference this morning, some drivers traveling north on Lake Shore Drive responded to the police escort by pulling over to the right until the parade of vehicles passed. Others kept moving.

One driver wanted to document the passing, and got to multi-tasking. Upon realizing that the president-elect was in the next lane, the female driver of a red Chevy blazer, appearing to to chat excitedly on her cell phone, sped up, snapped a picture, inadvertently changed lanes and nearly smashed into another car.

Must’ve been a supporter.

The story also mentioned that the woman, who was African American, was driving a car with an Alabama plate and an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. vanity plate. Earlier this year the AKAs extended an honorary membership to future First Lady, Michelle Obama.

On one hand, totally understand home girl's excitement. That's the president-elect in the other lane! But on the other hand, girlfriend, show some self-control before you kill people on Lake Shore. Live to skee-wee another day!

It's All Relative

Some Monday morning weirdness from reader Dory! Sayeth she, "This is a little disturbing. Barack does not look cute with John Edwards 'do, but I find John McCain surprisingly cuddly as a distinguished looking older black man. He kinda reminds me of my Uncle Lloyd."

I also think Black McMaverick kind of looks like a darker Colin Powell.

Madame Tussauds Puts the Candidates On Wax

Interesting, but will Madame Tussauds of London's wax Barack Obama be as handsomely creeptastic as this one I reported on earlier in the year?

Eerily hot.

The Good, the Bad and the Absurd, Pt. 4: The Junk Drawer

When I wrote that people would put Barack Obama's face on anything for a buck I was not kidding. While these political Cabbage Patch dolls may be expensive, they still belong in the dustbin of political pieces of crap. Just like these following items sent to me by various readers. (Thanks C. Overkill again, who sent a few of these my way!)

There's an equally ugly (if not uglier) McCain doll so don't really stress over this thing.

The Good, the Bad and the Absurd, Pt. 3: Fashioning the Obama Brand

Bonobos' "Obama" trouser: not available at any Gap Inc. or Banana Republic near you.

Out of all the art and weirdness and love and creativity the Obama campaign has inspired it has also stirred the interests of many designers/capitalists who know a good thing (and brand name) when they hear it.

(And "Obama" is so money he doesn't even know it.)

Here are some of the best "Brand Obama" finds that have made their way to my inbox.

The folks at Bonobos created two pairs of political pants -- the Obama and the McCain. Both going for $120, the creators slyly shrugged that they had no idea why they almost instantly sold out of the Obamas and still have plenty of McCains kicking around. They meant to stop making Obamas, but ... money talks, everything else walks. Bonobos is relaunching the Obama with a new "Hawaiian bandana" liner celebrating the candidate's home state.

From the description:

The Obamas target our charismatic customers - the magnificent Hawaii-themed floral liner screams open-minded, well-traveled, gregarious. In contrast, the McCains offer this highly desired navy trouser with a quietly confident subtle finish.

Smooth brushed cotton navy trousers? You don’t need much help here, but we wear them with brown loafers and belts, and we pair them with pink, white, light blue, yellow and just about any other light shade of polo or oxford shirt. It’s easy to look good in our midnight blues…

The McCains have a more conservative stripped liner and look. Personally, I liked both styles of pants, but preferred the McCains simply because I love a guy in simple, yet preppy pants. (Thanks to reader Dorothy for the tip!)

Need something to wear with you snazzy Obamas (or McCains, because ... c'mon. Bonobos makes some nice men's casual pants), these folks in the silkscreen necktie business have the answer.

Yes. It is the necktie version of Shepard Fairey’s now iconic red and blue portrait of Obama, a new take on what you father would call a "power tie."

But if you don't feel like rocking the Fairey, don't worry. These designers have your necks.

Created by Lineology, these hand screened ties feature Obama's face on designer brands like Perry Ellis and Hugo Boss. It's the mix of punk's DIY with Obama's potential POTUS. Classy. Available through Etsy all the Obama ties are $5 to $10 off!

Need a dogtag necklace that says you're not only voting for change but YOU ARE CHANGE? Boy has Jeweler Melinda Maria got the chain for you. For the necklace with Obama's visage, click here. For the one with Obama's campaign symbol, click here.

And this one I've run before but love because of the sheer ridiculousness: Jean-Charles de Castelbajac's creation unveiled during Paris Fashion Week this year. It is part of the "JC in the Sky with Diamonds" collection.

Feeling a little Obama 08 pride? How about some Obama 08 bling? It won't match Jean-Charles de Castelbajac "I have a dream" dress, but you probably can't afford that one anyway. The item can be found on Etsy, but don't ask me where. TrendHunter Magazine is not very forthcoming in its blog postings, but Fake Obama Girl here is more than happy to show off the wares.

The Good, the Bad and the Absurd, Pt. 2: Obama Art

Black Eyed Pea, Taboo and his blue "Obama" shoes make a political fashion statement -- gauche, yet politically popular.

Barack Obama's candidacy has been a muse to the many artists of the world and my inbox stays afloat in crazy Obama swag, artwork, fashion, cartoons, computer generated graphics, videos, tchotchkes and other bits of inspiration/ridiculousness. Here is Tuesday's latest dose.

An Obama mosaic poster on sale in Jakarta, Indonesia.

A farm full of artsy-fartsy hope by Hilary Ross and Jim Lennox in Pennsylvania. Perhaps to bringing political parity to that Sarah Palin crop circle?

And below are some assorted pieces of Barack based artwork/illustration. I'm not sure where I found them or got them.
