Extended Rant: Stephen Colbert On The George Will Revolt

It seems the brain of the Republican Party is now horrified at the monster they helped create. Where will they go now? David Frum, David Brooks, Scott McClellan, Christopher Buckley, Christopher Hitchens, Peggy Noonan, Kathleen Parker, Charles Krauthammer (even though he still hates Obama), ringleader George Will -- the list goes on and on and they all blame, Alaskan Snow Bride Sarah Palin, but as Colbert drolly points out -- really? The party's been off the rails for years now. This is the excuse you're using?

On Larry King Live last night Larry King and CNN political map guru John King mentioned that the rift over Palin could lead to a break-up of the party. When Larry King asked the female Republicans on his panel about this I agreed with them in that I don't see this happening.

But I do see a mass purging coming if John McCain loses (or wins). A sort of Spanish Inquisition for modern conservatives, only instead of being drawn and quartered or waterboarded, they'll just be exiled to Berkley, Calif. or Greenwich Village, NY or the other anti-America parts of America.

I hope you like Gay Pride parades and spoken word poets, Peggy Noonan. Wherever those exist is where the RNC is setting up the concentration camps.

Michelle and Jon: Together At Last

After doing The Colbert Report earlier this summer (and looking resplendent in a aquamarine dress ... and so resplendent, Colbert sang to her), Michelle Obama is strolling over to the set of The Daily Show Wednesday for a sit-down chit-chat with Jon Stewart. Yippie! I have a feeling Stewart won't push up on Barack's woman like that wily Colbert did, but I'm ready to squirm through another one of Stewart's funny, but sometimes painful interviews. Remember, Michelle! Don't try to be funny! That's his job. He'll only make you pay for it. Just "do you" and all will go magically.

Michelle Obama, the wife of Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, will make her first appearance on Comedy Central’s satirical news program “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” on Wednesday, the cable channel said Monday. Mr. Obama has been a guest of Mr. Stewart on the show three times, most recently in April. Ms. Obama has granted few interviews in recent months, though she did sit down with Jill Biden, the wife of Mr. Obama’s running mate Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., for a joint interview with “Access Hollywood” last month. Cindy McCain, the wife of the Republican nominee, Senator John McCain, has yet to appear on “The Daily Show” or its late-night companion “The Colbert Report,” a Comedy Central spokesman said.

I love me some Jon Stewart. And someday, God willing, it'll be me, him, a book I wrote and a TV audience and it will be awesome. Sigh. A girl can dream.

Why I Heart Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert

See! Now that's satire. I get exactly what that is supposed to be about. It's pitch freakin' perfect, comedy gold. It's so meta and so absurd with absurdity being the rule of law in this election cycle. Not since dogs playing poker have I seen such an iconic image of pop ridiculousness that can burn its way into your frontal lobe and never, ever leave.

And Stephen Colbert's face with his hand on his hip? That smirk like the one from The New Yorker cartoon cover -- priceless. And the Get Christie Love 'fro he's rocking? I couldn't love it more if I tried.

The cover goes with a very funny Entertainment Weekly Q&A with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert about the presidential race (as well as the occupational hazards of working as satirists). Stewart at one point compares their news-ish coverage to being akin to a drunk calling out another drunk for lying in a bar in New Jersey. The interview is hilarious.

Here's a nugget of Stewart answering a question about Gov. Sarah Palin's "folk hero" status:

I keep hearing that she's ''like us.'' There's this idea that people who hunt and have ''good'' values are somehow this mythological American; I don't know who ''this'' person is, I've never met them. She is no more typical ''us'' than I am, than Obama is, than McCain is, than Mr. T is. If there is something quintessentially or authentically American about her, I sort of feel like, you know what? You ''good values people'' have had the country for eight years, and done an unbelievably s---ty job. Let's find some bad values people and give them a shot, maybe they'll have a better take on it.
